AceShowbiz - Richard Ashcroft wants to write Rihanna's next big hit. The Verve legend, who is responsible for massive hits like "The Drugs Don't Work" and "Bitter Sweet Symphony", has his sights set on a return to the charts with the "Work" singer.

"A big thing I want to do is write for other people," he tells Britain's Daily Star newspaper's Wired column. "I want to know who writes for Rihanna and get an introduction."

"Adele would be great, but there's big competition there. I like big hits. I write big melodies and big choruses. I like singers where you know the chorus will be heard by billions of people."

"That's not for the dough, but the idea that you can get your melody heard by so many people."

Richard's also up for writing for Liam Gallagher, who appears on "C'mon People", lifted from his new album "Acoustic Hymns Volume 1".

"I'd love to write a song with Liam. If he's up for it, I'm up for it," he says. "I've got loads of ideas for what me and Liam could do and I'd love it if we had a bit more time to make it happen."

Richard's interview came after he discussed his and Liam's resurgence in popularity after the demise of their respective bands. "Me and Liam have got a second wind - the sails are full and the ship is flying and I'm fired up to play more shows and keep this sailing," he told Britain's The Sun newspaper.

"The problem is that we don't celebrate when people are doing well in music. Look at Ed Sheeran, I'm buzzing at how huge he is here and in America. We can be too cynical about people who are doing all right. Let's stop knocking him," the 50-year-old continued. "He's British and I know how hard it is to be huge in America."
