Forced to pulled the plug on appearances to promote his new album after contracting the coronavirus, the 'Perfect' hitmaker admits it was the first time he did not stay up for an album release.

AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran is winning his battle with COVID-19 after the virus forced him to scrap a string of in-person promotional commitments.

The "Perfect" singer revealed he had been diagnosed with COVID last week (ends October 22) and immediately pulled the plug on appearances lined up to promote his new album, which dropped on Friday, October 29. Now, he tells the BBC he's on the mend.

"I think I'm getting to the other side of it," he told Zoe Ball on her Radio 2 Breakfast Show. "The beginning of the week was pretty gnarly but I just drunk a lot of water and slept a lot and had all the vitamins that the doctor told me to have."

"It's the first time I didn't stay up for an album release. I tried and then I was just like, 'You know what, I need some sleep,' and went to bed and got a good night's sleep, and I was up bright and early."

He turned most of his in-person interviews and performances into virtual events from his home in Suffolk, England.

In one radio chat, with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on the Heart Breakfast Show, Sheeran revealed he has dressed up as superheroes to attend concerts and events incognito in the past.

"I used to go to festivals as Spider Man," he laughed. "My friends, who are wonderful, wonderful people, know that I can't do certain things, so they were like, 'One year we should just go as superheroes to a festival; you can dress up as Spider-Man. It will look like we're on a stag (bachelor party) do, and we can actually go and watch the gigs.' So I went in a crowd for the first time in, like, seven or eight years at that time."

He added, "I was playing the Rogers Centre Stadium in Toronto and next door there was a ComicCon and I had the Spider-Man outfit, and I was like, 'I'm going to go to Comic Con.' And I went to ComicCon and kind of got dragged into the Spider-Man crowd, so there were all these people dressed as Spider-Man, so there's a picture of me and, like, 20 Spidermen at ComicCon, and I'm kind of there."

"People were, like, asking to take pictures with me, because I'm Spider-Man, not because I'm me; it's great."
