Rascal Flatts Star Blames Deer for Crashing His Car Following DUI Arrest

Guitarist Joe Don Rooney insists he was not too drunk to drive and claims he only crashed his vehicle to avoid wild animal following DUI arrest earlier this year.

AceShowbiz - A deer was responsible for Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney's DUI arrest in September (21).

The country star told police he didn't think he was too drunk to drive home from a golf tournament and only drove his car into a tree after swerving to avoid the creature.

In a police affidavit, obtained by TMZ, cops claim his car's airbag deployed and when they arrived to the scene of the crash they smelled alcohol on Rooney. He was arrested after failing multiple sobriety tests.

He also told cops he had been golfing earlier and, while drinking with a pal, he had "one more than I should have."

Rooney has yet to officially comment about his arrest or the accident but his former bandmate, Gary LeVox, told People, "I think God gets your attention in different ways. I just wish him the best and I hope he gets everything that he needs to get well and take care of whatever issues he's got going on. There's power in prayer."

Earlier this month (Oct21), singer LeVox revealed Rascal Flatts decided to split after Rooney announced he was leaving the band in 2019.

"I've never been OK with the way that it ended," he added. "I wasn't happy that Joe Don quit."

They were supposed to embark on a farewell tour last year but the jaunt was called off due to pandemic.

"After a lot of difficult conversations that we never thought we would be having, we have decided that in the interest of the safety of everyone involved we will not be moving forward with our Farewell Tour," they said.
