'Rainbow' Actor Freddy Marks Passes Away at 71

The beloved British television star has died at the age of 71 with his wife Jane Tucker describing his passing as 'a very peaceful and beautiful moment.'

AceShowbiz - Children's television entertainer Freddy Marks has died aged 71.

The British star was best known for hosting the children's TV show "Rainbow", which ran from 1972 to 1992, alongside Jane Tucker and Rod Burton, passed away on Thursday (27May21), according to post on social media. A cause of death has not been given.

The news was announced in a post on a Rainbow fan group on Facebook, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that we sad (sic) to say that 'Freddy Marks' from Rod, Jane and Freddy has sadly passed away yesterday (27 May)."

It added, "Freddy was a very talented and funny guy who always bought a smile to everybody's face. Our thoughts go out to his wife Jane Tucker, Rod Burton and all their friends and family at this difficult time. Freddy will be greatly missed."

Marks' death comes five years after he and co-star Tucker, who had previously been married to Burton, got married. The couple began dating in 1985 and married in May 2016.

Marks rose to fame on "Rainbow", a series created to develop language and social skills for pre-school children, and the trio performed songs throughout the episodes.

They went on to star in their own spin-off series titled "The Rod, Jane, and Freddy Show" which ran for a decade on ITV from 1981 to 1991.

His wife Jane told the Daily Mail that the actor was admitted to hospice care before his death. "I was with him for every single minute of those four days. His passing was a very peaceful and beautiful moment," she said, adding that the staff at the hospice facility were "angels."
