The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor has returned to London's High Court to wrap up his testimony as part of his libel case against News Group Newspapers over a story branding him a 'wife beater.'

AceShowbiz - Johnny Depp accused his ex-wife Amber Heard of throwing a "haymaker" punch at him shortly after he found out he had lost much of his $650 million (£515 million) fortune.

The actor returned to London's High Court on Monday, July 13 to wrap up his testimony as part of his libel case against News Group Newspapers, over a story published in Britain's The Sun newspaper in 2018 which branded him a "wife beater".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, during his fifth and final day in the witness box, the star said that just before the alleged incident, which occurred after Heard's 30th birthday party, he had been told that his former business managers had "stolen my money," referring to cash he had mostly made from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films.

Asked how much was stolen, Depp said, "this is a ludicrous amount to have to state, it's quite embarrassing - apparently I had made $650 million," before adding that he was "$100 million (£80 million) in the hole because they had not paid the government my taxes for 17 years".

The "Rango" star alleged Heard hit him with a "haymaker" punch - a punch in which the arm is whipped sideways from the shoulder joint with minimal elbow bend - after she accused him of ruining her birthday party by arriving late, the court heard. The "Aquaman" actress is scheduled to give her own version of events later during the three-week trial. Depp previously claimed the birthday party dispute convinced him his marriage was at an end, as he believed his then-wife had defecated in a bed to show her displeasure with him.

Earlier on in the day's evidence, Depp said that after badly cutting a finger he contracted the MRSA virus, which he was recovering from when one of 14 alleged incidents of violence towards Heard occurred. Depp denies all allegations of domestic violence but has admitted he and his ex had a volatile relationship during which he struggled with withdrawal symptoms from quitting drugs.

During last week's explosive testimony, the court heard how Depp had used his mangled finger to write a message in blood on a mirror after the fallout, as he admitted he "went into some kind of breakdown". He claims the injury was caused by Heard, when she allegedly threw a glass vodka bottle at him - but she says she was not present at the time of the injury and he caused it by smashing a plastic phone against the wall.

Depp's other exes, Winona Ryder and Vanessa Paradis, are expected to give evidence in his defence during the trial this week.
