AceShowbiz - People are questioning KJ Apa's stance amid Black Lives Matter movement as the actor is relatively quiet on social media. That prompted comedian Elijah Daniel to call him out on Twitter while discussing KJ's movie "The Hate U Give".
"I love that movie but i do have a question, completely unrelated to the beef I formerly had with him," so Elijah wrote on the blue bird app earlier this month about the movie, which tells a story of Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg), who witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. "If KJ was the co-star of that movie, why is he so silent? He has such a massive young audience and got paid to be in a movie about police brutality and ... posted a black square?"
KJ didn't respond to the diss until Sunday evening, June 14. Replying to the tweet, the "Riverdale" star wrote, "I don't need to post about my opinions and beliefs in order for them to be real to me. I support black lives - but I don't feel it's necessary to prove to people I do by posting my attendance at these protests."
Some people, however, were not satisfied with his answer. Criticizing his white privilege, one fan wrote to KJ, "I hope you realise that 'I don't need to post about my opinions and beliefs in order for them to be real to me' just shows how privileged you really are. You're not using your platform for good, when you could use it for so much good & you're not? bit of a shame."
"it's not about proving anything, kj. it's about using your privelege, the voice you have and millions doesn't, to demand justice. it's really about taking action. if we don't stay at their throats justice won't be served," another person wrote. Someone else added, "Kj baby, you have a bigger platform then over half the people that have spoken about blm. They helped make a difference. And so can you. It's called spreading awareness. Not that hard."
Meanwhile, some fans defended KJ by noting that he did participate in #BlackOutTuesday back on June 1. Additionally, he shared on Instagram Stories over the weekend a video of Tupac Shakur speaking at the 1993 Indiana Black Expo. "When I say Thug Life, I mean that s**t. 'Cause these white folks see us as thugs. I don't care what ya'll think," the late rapper said in the video. "I don't care if you think a lawyer. If you a man. If you an African-American, if you whatever the f**k you think you are, we thugs."
