Claiming to have gotten a permission to unveil the affair from the late French singer, Paris-based journalist Gilles Lhote alleges that his friend and the actress fell in love in the early 1960s.

AceShowbiz - The author of a new book about the life of late French music icon Johnny Hallyday has unearthed details of an alleged 60-year secret romance between the singer and actress Catherine Deneuve.

Paris-based journalist Gilles Lhote, who was a close friend of Hallyday, claims the music star and Deneuve set up liaisons where they would never be caught with one another - and no one ever suspected there was something going on.

Lhote alleges the two stars met as teenagers in the early 1960s and fell in love.

Neither wanted a public romance, so Deneuve would often travel in the boot of Johnny's car or lying down by his feet to avoid being spotted with her secret lover, and the writer insists the affair continued almost until the singer's death from cancer in 2017.

Meanwhile, Hallyday was married five times - twice to the same woman, Adeline Blondieau - while Catherine was wed to photographer David Bailey from 1965 to 1972.

And journalist Lhote insists Johnny always had a string of lovers, stating: "If Mick Jagger had 4,000 mistresses, Johnny Hallyday was not far behind.

Hallyday and Deneuve met on the set of the film "Les Parisiennes" in 1961, when they were both just 18.

Lhote claims his late pal gave him his permission to reveal their affair after his death.

Deneuve has never mentioned anything about a secret romance with the singer, but upon his death, she said, "I had a lot of affection for him. A little more than affection... a real attachment."
