AceShowbiz - British actress Jill Gascoine has died at the age of 83 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Jill, who became a household name in the U.K. after playing Detective Inspector Maggie Forbes in the 1980s TV series "The Gentle Touch" and its spin-off series "C.A.T.S. Eyes", passed away in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, her son Adam confirmed in a Facebook post.

"My mum, Jill, died today at 3:33pm. She suffered from Alzheimer's for 10 years, so today was a thankful release," he wrote. "The family is all well, and relieved that she's not suffering any more."

The star, who had two sons from her first marriage, wed her second husband, fellow actor Alfred Molina, 66, in 1986, after they met in 1982 while appearing in the same production in London.

Although best known for her TV roles, which included "Z-Cars", General Hospital", "Rooms", and "Dixon of Dock Green", Jill also starred alongside Richard Harris and Glenda Jackson in the 1990 film "The King of the Wind". She also had a second career as a romantic novelist.

Adam revealed that the family will hold two memorials, one in the U.K., one in the U.S., where she and Alfred lived, when the Covid-19 crisis passes.

He also paid tribute to his mum, writing, "She was a wonderful human and a spirit of truth and absolute, unconditional love. There was no other. I am happy she's moved on. Please raise a glass. Be kind and love deeply."
