'The Office' Actor Ranjit Chowdhry Passed Away in India After Suffering From Ruptured Ulcer

The Bollywood actor, known for his portrayal of Vikram on the hit NBC series, reportedly underwent an emergency surgery at a Mumbai hospital before he died.

AceShowbiz - Ranjit Showdhry has sadly passed away at the age of 64. The former Bollywood actor, best known for his role as Vikram on NBC's "The Office", was reported to have died in his native India on Wednesday, April 15 after suffering from ruptured ulcer in his intestine.

Confirming Ranjit's passing was his half-sister, Raell Padamsee. On the day of the actor's death, she honored him through an Instagram post. Putting out a memorial photo of the actor, she revealed that his funeral would be held on Thursday, April 16 with plans to hold "a gathering to celebrate his life and share his stories" on May 5.

Details related to Ranjit's death was shared by Indian theatre actress, Dolly Thakore, on Thursday. In an interview with the Orissa Post, she claimed that the New York City resident "had come to India for a dental treatment. He has been here since December-January." She added that he set to fly back to the Big Apple on April 8, but wasn't able to because of the imposed lockdown due to coronavirus.

"He got a ruptured ulcer in the intestine which happened April 14," Dolly went on dishing. "A physician was called who said he needs to go to the hospital and he was taken to Breach Candy hospital. They operated on him but he died at the hospital yesterday at 4 in the morning."

Speaking of the late actor himself, Dolly was full of praises. "He was so well loved and an adorable guy," she recalled. "I reached out to the family. He has a wife and 16-year-old son in New York."

Ranjit was a son of a well-known Indian theatre personality, Pearl Padamsee. His step-father, Alyque Padamsee, was also a theatre actor and director. Aside from the 2005 hit comedy series, Ranjit also wrote and acted in 1991 "Sam & Me". He also made an appearance on "Prison Break" alongside Queen Latifah.
