Australians and his fans are debating whether it's okay to use a lot of the brown paste on toasts after the 'Sully' actor shares an Instagram post to thank 'the Helpers' during his quarantine Down Under.

AceShowbiz - Tom Hanks' latest update from his coronavirus isolation has caused a chatter online. While many are relieved that the actor is doing fine despite the illness, some others are concerned about his Vegemite consumption.

On Sunday, March 15, the two-time Academy Award winner shared on Instagram and Twitter a picture of two pieces of toast covered in Vegemite, the iconic savory spread loved by Australians. The photo also features stuffed kangaroo and koala holding the Australian flag as he wrote in the caption, "Thanks to the Helpers. Let's take care of ourselves and each other. Hanx."

Vegemite is a thick, dark brown Australian food spread made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives. Suggestions say that one should use a gentle "scrape" of the brown paste, instead of a thick layer like what Tom spread on his toasts.

The post instantly sparked a debate on whether Tom used the appropriate amount of Vegemite on his toasts. "He seems to be in good spirits but dangerously close to eating Vegemite," one commented on his Twitter post.

Another wrote in the comment section of his Instagram post, "Australians everywhere having a nervous breakdown over this vegemite ratio." Someone else remarked, "that's far too much vegemite on the toast."

"Noooo that's too much vegemite, scrape some off so we can officially adopt you as an Aussie," one opined. A concerned user asked, "@tomhanks did you really eat that toast? That's so much Vegemite! Barely edible I suspect." A fan also told him, "Tom we love u u don't need to eat vegemite to impress us, we all know it's garbage."

Others shared some advice such as, "Mmmmm.... lots of butter not so much vegemite mate! Wishing you both quick recovery," "You are going to hate vegemite if you put that much on ! Just a small scraping and lots of butter," and "okay you need to scrape around 60% of that vegemite off, otherwise it's gonna be nasty and hurt your mouth friend."

Some others, meanwhile, joked that Tom is now a "true Australian" after showing his love for Vegemite. "The way Tom Hanks eats Vegemite (look how THICK it is!!!) means he's now officially Australian, that's how citizenship works here," one quipped.

Tom and his wife Rita Wilson have been in quarantine in Australia after he announced on Wednesday, March 11 that they tested positive for coronavirus. Giving an update from their isolation, he wrote on his social media account one day later, "There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?"
