The plus-size rapper gets her first Grammy trophy as she is announced as the winner for Best Pop Solo Performance for her breakthrough hit during the live ceremony.

AceShowbiz - The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards has officially kicked off at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Several musicians took to the stage before the first winner during the Sunday, January 26 live ceremony was announced, and it went to Lizzo, who took home Best Pop Solo Performance Award.

Lizzo won the award thanks to her hit "Truth Hurts", besting out other strong contenders that included Beyonce Knowles, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. During her acceptance speech, the singer was noticeably emotional as saying, "This is unexpected, really cool. I want to say, this whole week, I've been lost in my problems, stressed out, then in an instant that can go away, your priorities shift. I realized there are people hurting now, and you guys create beautiful music..."

She continued, "This is the beginning of making music that's good again, music that liberates people. And if I hadn't reached out, I wouldn't have met my best friends... Thank you so much for lifting me up. Let's continue to hold each other down and lift each other up, thank you so much." She also reminded audience and viewers at home to take Kobe Bryant tragedy as a reminder to keep our struggles in perspective as saying, "All of my little problems that I thought were big as the world were gone."

Her Best Pop Solo Music Performance win marked Lizzo's first Grammy win. The plus-size rapper, who is leading the nominations list with eight nods, is still up for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist among others.

The second winner of the night was announced following Tyler, the Creator's performance. Dan + Shay took home the Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their song "Speechless". They won over the likes of Little Big Town and Brothers Osborne.

More winners will be announced during the live ceremony hosted by Alicia Keys.
