AceShowbiz - Dove Cameron's ex-fiance Ryan McCartan has hit back at the star after she seemingly referred to him as a "toxic person."

Ryan hit the headlines last week, when he shared a candid post on Instagram, in which he appeared to allege she cheated on him.

"Within two weeks, my fiancee cheated on and left me... I truly didn't think I would be able to make it through that part of my life," he wrote in response to a fan's question about his proudest moment.

While Dove later shared her own message, expressing her positive outlook for the coming year, she went on to repost a cryptic quote on Twitter, which many thought was directed at her ex.

"When a toxic person can no longer control you, they will try to control how others see you. The misinformation will feel unfair, but stay above it, trusting that other people will eventually see the truth, just like you did," read the full quote. Cameron simply added, "Beautiful."

Seemingly responding to the speculation surrounding the "The Descendants" star's latest move, actor/singer Ryan penned a lengthy note on Instagram reflecting on the pair's relationship.

"I think Dove and I fundamentally agree about our relationship with one another. We were young, and immature. Our relationship was dysfunctional. We were a bad match," he candidly wrote alongside the words, "In response to social media posts."

He added, "She has made claims about me and about our past that I don't think are fair or even true, but she is entitled to her opinion. I have made claims about her and our past that I'm sure she doesn't think are fair or true, but I am entitled to my opinion."

Insisting the former couple are "not at war with one another," he added, "I wish her nothing but the best. I am grateful for our relationship. I learned what love is by learning what it isn't. People are allowed to be young and make mistakes. People are allowed to grow up and grow apart."
