The 'Because the Night' hitmaker celebrates the young environmental activist who marks her 17th birthday by leading a school strike in her native country of Sweden.

AceShowbiz - Rocker Patti Smith celebrated environmentalist Greta Thunberg's 17th birthday by penning a poem in her honour.

The climate campaigner turned 17 on Friday, January 3, 2020 and marked the occasion by leading a school strike in her native Sweden in a bid to convince politicians to take urgent action to address the global crisis.

While Greta took part in protest, punk rock legend Patti made a point to acknowledge the teen by dedicating a poem to her and sharing it on Instagram, alongside an image of Thunberg.

The 73-year-old Because the Night singer's poem reads, "This is/ Greta Thunberg, turning/ seventeen today, asking/ for no accolade, no gifts,/ save we not be neutral./ The Earth knows its kind,/ just as all deities, just as/ animals and the healing/ spring. Happy birthday/ to Greta, who stood today,/ as every Friday, refusing/ to be neutral."
