The female writer, who died on December 2 at the age of 80, has been credited for the pilot for 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' as well as the 'Journey to Babel' episode from the original series.

The first female "Star Trek" writer, Fontana, real name Dorothy Fontana, passed away on Monday, December 02.

Her highlighted credits included the classic episode "Journey to Babel" from the original "Star Trek" series and the pilot for "Star Trek: The Next Generation", which she co-wrote with series creator Gene Roddenberry.

Her television writing career began in 1960 and included episodes of "Kung Fu", "Logan's Run", "The Six Million Dollar Man", "Land of the Lost", "The Waltons", "Dallas", and "The Streets of San Francisco", among other hits.
