AceShowbiz - Britain's Prince Harry has addressed the controversy surrounding his family's use of private jets, insisting they only use them in "unique circumstances" to ensure their safety.

The 34-year-old British royal and his wife Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, hit headlines when they reportedly took four private jet journeys in 11 days this summer - which many suggested went against their views on supporting the environment.

As Harry launched eco-friendly tourism initiative Travalyst in Amsterdam on Tuesday (September 03), he discussed his use of private jets, explaining: "I spend 99 per cent of my life travelling the world by commercial. Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe."

On at least two occasions over the summer, Harry and Meghan were joined by their three-month-old son Archie.

Adding that "no-one is perfect", Harry, who flew commercial to Amsterdam for the event, continued: "Sometimes the scale of the conservation crisis feels overwhelming and that individual actions can't make a difference."

"It is about balance, and if I have to do that (fly via private jet)... then I will ensure, as I have done previously and I will continue to make sure that I do, to balance out that impact that I have. I have always offset my CO2... there are so many people out there who hear about it, who don't know about it. In my mind, it's the right thing to do."
