For giving so much of his time to organize the September 1 concert, the 'Beautiful People' hitmaker gets praised by presidential hopeful Beto O'Rourke, who also spoke at the event.

AceShowbiz - Khalid's benefit concert for the victims of the recent El Paso, Texas mass shooting raised $500,000 (£416,000).

A gunman shot and killed 22 people and injured 24 others after opening fire on crowds at a Walmart store in the city on August 3.

To help the victims and their families, the "Beautiful People" hitmaker organised the concert, which took place on Sunday, September 1, and featured appearances from stars including Texan acting legend Matthew McConaughey, SZA, and Rae Sremmurd.

Revealing the concert's success on Monday, Khalid tweeted: "Last night we raised $500,000 for the El Paso Community Foundation! (loveheart emoji) thank you so much for all of the support!".

U.S. presidential hopeful Beto O'Rourke, who, like Khalid, hails from El Paso, also took time out from campaigning for the Democratic Party's nomination for the 2020 election to speak at the event, and praised the star for his efforts.

"I can't tell you what it means for El Paso to have @thegreatkhalid here," he tweeted after the event. "He was amazing tonight. Giving so much of his time and talent and compassion to families who've been through so much. Bringing power and joy to the people of El Paso and (neighbouring Mexican city) Juarez."
