Dubbed the 'Gem City Shine', the event will be held in the Oregon District nightlife area where guests will receive a special commemorative T-shirt in exchange for a $20 minimum donation.

AceShowbiz - Comedian Dave Chappelle is set to host a free block party for the people of Dayton, Ohio still reeling from a deadly mass shooting, which rocked the city earlier this month.

The event will be held in the Oregon District nightlife area, where the nine people lost their lives on 4 August.

"This event will honour the lives lost and to reclaim the community's favorite places to shop, dine and enjoy time with family and friends," a post on Facebook reads.

Titled the "Gem City Shine", the festivities are reserved strictly for Dayton residents. Guests will receive a special commemorative T-shirt in exchange for a $20 minimum donation that will benefit the Dayton Foundation, which was launched in the wake of the tragedy.

The 45-year-old "A Star Is Born" actor has a personal connection to the area - he spent part of his childhood there and lives in nearby Yellow Springs.
