AceShowbiz - Mariah Carey has congratulated Lil Nas X after the rapper broke her number one chart record on Monday (July 29).
The breakout crossover act's "Old Town Road" has spent 17 weeks at number one in the U.S., breaking a tie with Carey, Boyz II Men, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, and gracious Mariah was one of the first to virtually pat him on the back.
Tweeting an illustration of herself passing a torch to Lil Nas X, she wrote: "Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest running records in music history!"
"We've been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life!"
The star then replied to Mariah, writing: "wowwww thank you so much mariah! you are a legend and an icon and i'm blessed to even have you acknowledging me right now! growing up to your music & now having you talk to me directly is unreal!"
