Addressing his second arrest, the legendary baseball star, who has been struggling with drugs and alcohol issue since his playing days, says, 'I feel bad for anybody I disappointed or let down.'

AceShowbiz - One month has barely passed since Dwight Gooden was taken into custody for DUI, but he has just been arrested for the same issue again. On Monday night, July 22, the former New York Mets pitcher was arrested after police pulled him over for driving the wrong way on a one-way street shortly after 11 P.M. in New Jersey.

Sources alleged that Gooden had "peed himself" behind the wheel of the car and that he told officers that he's diabetic. "He peed himself. He was clearly buzzed, really kind of f***ed up," one source said, before adding that Gooden was still "cooperative and polite." He was then taken into a local hospital to be checked by doctors and would likely later be charged for the incident.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose confirmed the story in a statement that read, "It's sad to see the continued problems of this former Mets' star but it's an example of the persistent scourge of drugs and alcohol in this country and the stranglehold they have on addicts."

On Tuesday, Gooden said outside his home that he would return to rehab following his second arrest and admitted to feeling "very embarrassed" and "very shameful" over what happened. "I feel bad for anybody I disappointed or let down," the legendary baseball star said. "It's a struggle--a hard struggle--but you have to just jump back in."

He continued, "I'll be checking in tonight, whatever it takes. This time, I mean, at my age, I've been doing this for 30 something years. I never thought I'd see myself at 54 going back to treatment. First time was at 21. But, you know."

This marks the second time Gooden was arrested for DUI in just six weeks. The athlete, who has been dealing with drugs and alcohol issue since his playing days, was busted for cocaine possession on another DUI stop that happened on June 7 in New Jersey. He faced third-degree charges of possessing a controlled dangerous substance, possessing drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence.
