AceShowbiz - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened this weekend. A royal source reveals that the event will be held privately on Saturday, July 6.
Speaking to CNN on Sunday, June 30, the source said that the ceremony is set to be a "small, private event with fewer than 25 friends and family members in attendance." It will allegedly took place at a private chapel in Windsor Castle.
The place is indeed special for both Harry and Meghan. The Duke of Sussex was christened at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle back in 1984. And people may remember that he and wife Meghan exchanged vows at their royal wedding at the castle in May 2018.
It is said that Archie, seventh in line to the throne, will wear a replica of the vintage lace gown in which his father was christened. The gown was commissioned by Queen Victoria and first used in 1841 for the baptism of her eldest daughter, Princess Victoria. Made from Spitalfields silk and Honiton lace, the original was worn by 62 royal babies, including Queen Elizabeth at her christening in 1926 and Prince William.
As Archie's baptism will reportedly be a private event, it means there will be no fan gatherings, and more importantly, no candid photos of the child outside. However, The Sunday Times notes that it is highly likely that the royal couple will share on Instagram some photos of their son taken place at the event.
That doesn't stop people, especially taxpayers, from criticizing Harry and Meghan's decision to make it private. "Private Christening but publicly funded," one Twitter user wrote. "Demanding a private christening? Funny, they're living on the tax payer's dime...maybe relinquish that and you can make privacy demands, until them, go fly a kite," another added.
"So Hazza and Megs want a private christening. They are either private or Royal. They cannot be both. Hope they realise as private individuals they need to pay for their own security and the taxpayer rent for their home or get a mortgage to buy it. That's private for you," another comment read. "This is all fine. As long as we don't pay for him. You can't have it both ways. If you are private citizens dont't expect to be publicly funded," tweeted another person.
