The 'Transformers' star will be taking on the role of schizophrenic hero Evan Michaels if he joins director Antoine Fuqua in the film adaptation of 2009 novel 'The Reincarnationist Papers'.

AceShowbiz - Mark Wahlberg is set to take over from Chris Evans in the movie adaptation of 2009 novel "The Reincarnationist Papers".

Director Antoine Fuqua has reportedly been eyeing the "Lone Survivor" star for his action thriller, "Infinite", after Evans dropped out of the project.

Scheduling problems on his new Apple TV series, "Defending Jacob", are to blame, according to The Hollywood Reporter sources.

If he takes the job, Wahlberg will play schizophrenic hero Evan Michaels in the story about a group of near-immortal men and women - known as "the Infinite" - who have been reincarnated over the centuries.

When Michaels finally realises his vivid dreams are actually past life memories, he uses the stored knowledge to defeat an evil mastermind.

The movie is scheduled for release next year (2020).
