Gloria Allred, who represents the alleged victim, claims the 'Yeah 3x' hitmaker 'has thumbed his nose at' the French legal system by not showing up at the formal meeting in Paris.

AceShowbiz - Chris Brown failed to show up at a scheduled meeting with his alleged rape victim that was supposed to take place on Tuesday, May 28 in Paris. American lawyer Gloria Allred, who represents the alleged victim, says the singer-songwriter "has thumbed his nose at and shown disrespect for the French legal system."

Gloria herself, a known women's rights attorney in the U.S., traveled to Paris judicial police's headquarters to assist her client at the meeting, which in France is called a confrontation. She added of Chris' no-show, "His failure to appear today is very unfair to my client, but I assure him that my client will not be deterred from seeking justice."

The woman's French lawyer Jean-Marc Descoubes said Chris was not legally obliged to attend the meeting, but it was needed to investigate the case. Two other suspects in the case, both American, also skipped the meeting, according to Jean-Marc, who expects another date to be set.

"If he doesn't show up a second time we will have to either ask for the preliminary investigation to be closed (to allow for an investigative judge take over the procedure) because we just can't keep going like this," he said. "Or we will ask the prosecutor to put in place more coercive measures, a warrant to get him to come because the confrontation requested by our client is key to this case - a sexual abuse case."

In his client's defense, Chris' French lawyer Raphael Chiche said he had let French authorities know that the "With You" hitmaker would not be available because the date was not convenient and he would work to set a new date. The lawyer stated, "Chris Brown does not want to escape his responsibilities. He wants to confront her infamous and calumnious accusations."

Chris and two other men, one is Chris' friend and the other is his bodyguard, are accused by the woman of raping her at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Paris in January. They were arrested by French police on potential charges of aggravated rape and drug infractions, but then released from custody without charge pending further investigation. The Paris prosecutor's office said that as of Tuesday the "preliminary investigation" is still ongoing.

The 30-year-old hip-hop star has denied the allegations.
