However, he had no idea the meal would turn into a mini "Friends" reunion and Luke had to keep his excitement under wraps as Lisa joined them for the casual get-together.
"She (Jennifer) kindly invited me to dinner at her house and being a little star struck I couldn't believe it when Lisa Kudrow walked in," he recalls in an interview on Britain's "The Graham Norton Show".
"I was trying to play it cool, but Lisa sat one side of me and Jennifer on the other and I had one of those 'pinch me' moments and thought, 'Wow, I am sitting in between Phoebe and Rachel (their 'Friends' character names)'."
His new friendship with Jennifer was a pleasant bonus after shooting "Murder Mystery", because filming the project in Lake Como, Italy was more of a vacation than a grind.
"It was fun and a very enjoyable job to have," Luke smiled. "It was a great summer and I had a really easy schedule so spent most of the time in a hotel on Lake Como - I've never had so many people visit me on set!"
The Welsh actor wasn't the only one to enjoy Jennifer's hospitality and the company of her famous friends - leading man Adam Sandler got the chance to spend some time with her at George Clooney's Lake Como estate.
"All these nice people were there and they (George and his wife Amal) invited Jen and me...," the funnyman recently shared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". "They made us homemade pizza and I had this amazing time; I sat next to Bono. It was a good day."
"Murder Mystery" is set for release on Netflix on June 14.
