The 'New Light' singer responds to the rumors when he stops by Andy Cohen's radio show, explaining what really happens during their encounter at GQ's Men of the Year party.

AceShowbiz - In late last year, there were rumors going around saying that John Mayer and Kourtney Kardashian could have been dating after they were said to be chatting at GQ's Men of the Year party. The singer has now set the record straight and explained what really went down during the party during his appearance on Andy Cohen's radio show.

"That happens not to be true," John told Andy, before admitting that he was suspicious about the origin of the rumors. "Not sure the call's not coming when people start gossiping about you and someone else and they start putting your picture together, it gets real suggestive. You're like, 'Well if I do, everything kinda falls into place 'cause everyone's already putting us together!' So it's a genius idea."

John then admitted that it was true that they crossed path during the Men of Year party, but denied some details about their encounter. The "New Light" singer said he was upset with report which suggested that he said, "It was sweet serendipity running into you," to Kourtney. "I would never say that!" John insisted during the radio interview.

"If you're getting paid to write the story and you listen to every John Mayer song and say, 'What's the next thing he might say based on all the lyrics?' " he continued. "It might be 'It was sweet serendipity running into you.' But I didn't say that because that's hyper-corny."

John detailed that he encountered Kourtney after running into the bass player from The Scorpions, Klaus, who wanted the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star to appear in his video. "He started throwing me in a video and I was hamming it up because I love The Scorpions and then Kourtney Kardashian walks up," he recalled. "I said, 'Kourtney walk away. This is the bass player and he's going to try to get you in his video' cause he was already like, 'Hey Kourtney, come be in my video.' "

"All I did was save Kourtney Kardashian from being in a video with the bass player from The Scorpions," the singer said, calling that a "far better story than 'sweet serendipity.' "
