The 72nd annual film festival itself will officially begin on May 14 with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu serving as jury president and Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' among films in competition.

AceShowbiz - Josh Gad kicked off the 2019 Cannes Film Festival fortnight on Monday, May 13, by launching his "Angry Birds" sequel.

The "Frozen (2013)" star joined the film's director, Thurop Van Orman, and producer John Cohen, as well as members of the film's international voiceover cast, including Sergey Burunov and Irma Knol, for a human catapult stunt off the Carlton pier in Cannes.

A new scene from the film was also unveiled online during the event, and a massive billboard for "The Angry Birds Movie 2" was posted at the seafront.

The festival officially begins on Tuesday, with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu heading up this year's competition jury, which features Elle Fanning and filmmakers Yorgos Lanthimos and Paweł Pawlikowski.

Among the films in competition will be Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and new movies from directors Pedro Almodovar and Terrence Malick.
