Having played Alexis Carrington on the reboot series for a little more than a year, the former 'Desperate Housewives' star suggests that her character would be recast.

AceShowbiz - Nicollette Sheridan is leaving "Dynasty" to spend "precious time" with her terminally ill mother.

The 55-year-old, who played Alexis Carrington on the rebooted U.S. soap opera, quit the show after little more than a year. She will make her final appearance in March.

The former "Desperate Housewives" star confirmed the news in a statement, and explained that family time was much more important to her right now.

"Working on the 'Dynasty' reboot and reprising the iconic role of Alexis has been thoroughly enjoyable, but the chance to spend precious time with my terminally ill mother is more important to me right now," Nicollette shared.

She also said that the role of Alexis Carrington would be recast.

"I am hopeful that my fans will embrace my successor with as much passion as they embraced me," she added.

Her departure is the third major cast shake-up to rock the show in less than a year, following the exits of series regulars Nathalie Kelley and James Mackay.

Nicollette joined the "Dynasty" reboot halfway through season one, succeeding British icon Joan Collins, who played Alexis in the original ABC series.
