The former 'Nashville' star has been tapped to star as Roger Ailes' wife, Beth, in a biopic that has Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie among the cast ensemble.

AceShowbiz - Actress Connie Britton has been cast to portray disgraced U.S. TV chief Roger Ailes' wife Beth in a new biopic.

John Lithgow will star as the late TV executive alongside Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Kate McKinnon, Margot Robbie, and Allison Janney in the film, which will be directed by Jay Roach. The as-yet-untitled movie is being written by Charles Randolph and Theron is producing with Roach.

Last month, the project hit a stumbling block after Annapurna studio officials pulled out of the film, but Lionsgate bosses are reportedly close to finalising a deal to finance and distribute it.

It is unclear when it will begin production, but the movie will focus on Ailes' downfall following a string of controversial comments and accusations of sexual harassment.

Ailes, who was Chairman and CEO of Fox News and Fox Television Stations, was forced to resign in 2016 when he became the subject of several sexual misconduct allegations. He went on to become an adviser to the Donald Trump presidential campaign, where he assisted with debate preparation. He died last year (17).

Roach's film is not the only project focused on Ailes currently in the works - Russell Crowe will also portray the late media boss in TV movie "The Loudest Voice in the Room", which is based on Gabriel Sherman's bestselling book of the same name. It reportedly focuses on the last 10 years of Ailes' life and will air on U.S. network Showtime.
