AceShowbiz - Actress Brec Bassinger has landed the coveted role of "Stargirl" in a new series for DC Entertainment's new streaming site.
The "Bella and the Bulldogs" regular will tackle the cosmic character on pay-per-view DC Universe, which launched on Saturday, September 15.
Comic book guru Geoff Johns, who is the new show's writer and executive producer, insists Bassinger is the perfect actress to play Courtney Whitmore's superheroine alter ego.
"There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl, and after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger," he tells Deadline. "Brec's warmth, strength, humour and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I'm so grateful she's signed on for the role."
The new series will revolve around Whitmore as she discovers her stepfather was once a superhero sidekick.
