Dwayne Johnson shares a behind-the-scenes image of his co-star Jason Statham chatting with director David Leitch in front of a fancy car to mark the first day of production.

AceShowbiz - Filming on "Fast and Furious" spin-off "Hobbs and Shaw" has officially begun. To mark the first day of production, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson took to Instagram on Monday, September 10 to share the first photo from the set.

Featured in the black-and-white image are Johnson's co-star Jason Statham and director David Leitch as they're having a conversation and standing in front of a fancy car. Statham, who reprises his role as Deckard Shaw, wears a sleek suit with what appears to be a stylish building in the backdrop.

Johnson, who has not arrived on the set, captioned the snap, "DAY 1 and the evolution has officially begun. Long awaited Fast & Furious spin-off movie, #HobbsAndShaw is electric. My partner in heavy crime & fun @jasonstatham is lookin' like $1million bucks and holdin' it all down. Our visionary & bad a** director @davidmleitch (just directed Deadpool2) at the helm and ready to evolve the franchise in exciting and fresh new ways. And as always, our @sevenbucksprod president @hhgarcia41 capturing the dopest images thru his [camera emoji] lens."

He continued supporting the cast and crew who have started working on the movie, "Keep crushing on that set boys... the man known as 'HOBBS' will touch down in London in two weeks. Pancakes, tequila and ass kickin's on me."

Johnson is currently still in Hawaii to film Disney's "Jungle Cruise", a live-action movie based on a Disneyland safari ride of the same name. He stars alongside Emily Blunt in the adventure movie, which is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

"Hobbs and Shaw" focuses on Statham's criminal mastermind Shaw and Johnson's U.S. Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs. Johnson joined the "Fast and Furious" franchise in the fifth movie "Fast Five" (2011), while Statham's character was first introduced in the seventh installment "Furious 7" (2015).

When the spin-off was greenlit by Universal Pictures in late 2017, it caused a rift between Johnson and "Fast and Furious" star Tyrese Gibson, who accused the wrestler-turned-actor of holding up production on the ninth film by making the separate project.

The spin-off moves forward though, with the studio scheduling it for a July 26, 2019 U.S. release. Helen Mirren is set to reprise her role as Shaw's feisty mum Magdalene, while "The Crown" star Vanessa Kirby will play an MI-5 agent, who just happens to be Shaw's sister.

Idris Elba is additionally cast as a villain in the movie. Johnson confirmed Elba's involvement with his tweet back in July, writing, "Welcoming my dude @idriselba with tattooed and open arms to our #HobbsAndShaw Fast & Furious spin-off movie. Every hero is only as good as their villain. Cue the music... let's dance."

Details of the storyline are still kept under wraps.
