AceShowbiz - Janelle Monae made one fan's day extra special by pulling her up onstage and video chatting with her deployed father during a concert on Friday, August 24.

The Hidden Figures star was performing on U.S. breakfast show Today when she took a moment to greet a fan named Zaria and her mother, who was filming the magical moment so her soldier husband could watch his daughter meet the singer.

"It means so much (to see her perform today)," the fan said before meeting her idol. "She means so much, she's so amazing, she represents everything: love, black girl magic, everything."

Monae then invited Zaria to stand closer to her and thanked her father for his service, before pulling her onstage for a hug, which left the young woman in tears and speechless.

"You are just the cutest thing...," Janelle told Zaria.

During the show, Janelle performed songs from her new album, Dirty Computer, and opened up about who she wrote the record for.

"It was about those who have been pushed to the margins of society because of who they love, because of where they come from, what class they're from, because of the colour of their skin...," she said. "What I wanted to do was create something that felt communal."
