AceShowbiz - "Veronica Mars" is about to make a comeback. A revival of Rob Thomas' cult favorite noir mystery series is reportedly being developed on Hulu. Original star Kristen Bell is set to reprise her role as the titular character.
Original creator Thomas is also attached on the planned eight-part limited series. He will be shepherding the project through Warner Horizon TV, the cable/streaming division of Warner Bros TV. It is said that the new deal won't interfere Bell's gig on "The Good Place".
Rumor has it, Hulu is currently in negotiations to bring the other cast members from the original series and follow-up movie.
"We're still working on it. We're hopeful," Thomas most recently said of the revival. "Yeah. It's just finding the window where she's available and I'm available is part of the trick and yeah, but spiritually we're still very into it."
Set in the fictional town of Neptune, California, the original drama followed a teen sleuth and student who moonlit as a private investigator under the tutelage of her detective father (Enrico Colantoni). Each episode sees Veronica solving a different stand-alone case while working to solve a more complex mystery.
"Veronica Mars" originally ran for three seasons from 2004-2007. The first two seasons aired on UPN before moving to The CW for another season. It was later followed by a fan-funded movie sequel in 2014 after Bell and Thomas launched a campaign to raise money through Kickstarter. In no time, the two raised $3.7 million. The flick featured Bell and a number of other original cast members.
Later that year, The CW's Seed platform aired "Play It Again, Dick, a Veronica Mars", a digital spin-off series from Thomas. The Dick Casablancas-centered spin-off starred co-star Ryan Hansen.
