The decision was allegedly made final in a 'civil and professional' meeting between Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn and Gunn.

AceShowbiz - "Guardians of the Galaxy" stars and fans' cry asking Disney to rehire James Gunn apparently doesn't work. The studio confirms to Variety that it stands firm on decision to let go Gunn from the third installment of the popular Marvel movie after his old offensive jokes about pedophilia and rape on Twitter were unearthed.

It was reported that the decision was made final in a "civil and professional" meeting between Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn and Gunn. Insiders claimed that Marvel head Kevin Feige didn't attend the meeting because he was out of town.

Previous rumors suggested that Feige was pushing Disney to bring back Gunn to direct "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3". However, now that Disney decided to officially cut ties with the filmmaker, Feige reportedly stood by the studio's decision.

The new report further adds that Once Feige is back, Disney and Marvel will continue searching for a replacement director for the upcoming movie. With this director shakeup, it remains to be seen whether "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" will stay with its initial timetable. Sources reveal that Gunn's original script will still be used for the next superhero flick.

A slew of the movie's cast members have been expressing their support for Gunn as they signed an open letter in which they declared their loyalty to Gunn and called for his reinstatement. Among the key actors in the movie, Dave Bautista is the most vocal one.

The Drax depicter recently said he would return for the third installment of the "Guardians" film series only because it was a contract obligation. "I will do what Im legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. GOTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn't GOTG," he tweeted. "Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis . That's just how I feel."
