AceShowbiz - After unveiling the first official look at actress Liu Yifei as Mulan to mark the first day of production on Monday, August 13, director Niki Caro also shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the upcoming live-action movie. Posted on his Instagram account on the same day, the image shows the title character looking pensive as she's standing by a body of water with a giant green screen on the background.
Caro captioned the shot with "Mulan. Day #1. Reflections. #mulan #disney #yifei_cc," which gave a hint about what the scene is about. The scene which was filmed in the photo looks similar to a sequence in the 1998 animated movie when the titular heroine sings the song "Reflection".
" 'Mulan' is the epic adventure o a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet," Disney says. "When the emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China's greatest warriors ever."
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" star Donnie Yen is cast as Commander Tung, a mentor and teacher to the title character. Meanwhile, digital star Jimmy Wong and Doua Moua have just been added to the cast in the roles of Ling and Po, respectively, according to Deadline. Both characters appeared in the animated movie.
The new film will be exec produced by Bill Kong, the producer of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "House of Flying Daggers". While the original film was a musical, the live-action adaptation will not be a musical. It is set for a March 27, 2020 release in the United States.
