Blake admits no one is more surprised at how well they have connected as a couple than the stars themselves.

AceShowbiz - Country star Blake Shelton and rocker Gwen Stefani never envisioned becoming long-term lovers because they thought the relationship was just a rebound romance.

The two musicians became an unlikely couple after working together on TV talent show The Voice in 2015, following the summer breakdown of their respective marriages.

Blake divorced fellow country singer Miranda Lambert after four years as husband and wife, while Gwen split from Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, the father of her three boys, after 13 years of marriage.

The relationship stunned fans, and Blake admits no one is more surprised at how well they have connected as a couple than the stars themselves.

"I think in the back of our minds we both kind of thought this is a rebound deal, because we were both coming out of a pretty low spot in our lives and we're kind of clinging to each other to get through this," he shares in a preview of his interview on this weekend's, June 24 breakfast show Sunday Today. "But now here we are, going on three years later".

"Every day that goes by just feels like a stronger bond between the two of us," Blake continues. "It constantly feels like it's going to the next level".

Despite their ever-growing love for one another, both Blake and Gwen have played down tabloid rumours about an impending wedding, although the No Doubt star recently confessed she wonders what life would be like as Mrs. Shelton "all the time".

"I love weddings," she smiled to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in April.

Gwen, who helped her man celebrate his 42nd birthday on Monday, June 18, isn't the only one thinking about the couple's future - Blake previously revealed spending so much time with his girlfriend and her three kids had made him rethink becoming a dad.

The Boys 'Round Here hitmaker told the Today show he would never have thought he'd be so happy surrounded by children, especially as he convinced himself fatherhood just wasn't on the cards for him following two failed marriages.

"I never saw that coming, but they're so fun," he smiled in March. "They are (great kids)... and at this point in my life, I kinda had put that (fatherhood) one side, like, 'Well, I guess that wasn't meant to be,' or whatever, then all of a sudden it happens one way or another, (and) it's like, 'Wow, I've missed out on a lot,' so having them around is... so much fun'.

Before his relationship with Lambert, Blake was also married to Kaynette Williams from 2003 to 2006.
