The 'SATC' star launches merchandise inspired by her character on the TV series to help spread her message.

AceShowbiz - Cynthia Nixon is releasing a line of Sex and the City-inspired merchandise based on her character from the beloved show.

Cynthia became a household name after being cast as tough lawyer Miranda Hobbes in the HBO show, which was set in the flame-haired star's native New York.

In March, the actress announced she would be running for office, and she's now releasing a line of Miranda-inspired merch to help spread her message.

And the garments, T-shirts, a cap and canvas tote bag, coincide with the 20th anniversary of "Sex and the City".

"Are you a Miranda voting for Cynthia? In honour of #SATC20, here's a line of Miranda merchandise designed by the team behind the "Every Outfit on Sex and the City" Instagram account... because, well, we should all be Mirandas who vote for Cynthia," Cynthia wrote on her social media pages, with a link to the Cynthia for New York store.

Slogans like "I'm a Miranda and I'm voting for Cynthia" and "I'm a Miranda (crossed out) Future Governor of New York" are splashed across the garments, with prices ranging from $28 (£21) for a child's T-shirt to $38 (£28) for a hat.

The 52-year-old is taking on current Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat like Cynthia, though she recently lost her bid to become the Democratic Party's nominee. However, she's not giving up, and plans to collect at least 15,000 signatures via a petition to earn her place on the ballot as an independent candidate.

Her "Sex and the City" co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall have all shared their support.

If Cynthia does land the political role, she'll be the first female, openly gay governor in the state's history.
