The 'Leftovers' alum explains his skin art, which features a rat and a pigeon, honors his two rescue pitbulls, who died.

AceShowbiz - Justin Theroux has honoured his late dogs with a massive tattoo on his back.

The "Girl on the Train" star was asked about his skin art, which features a rat and a pigeon, during a live recording of "Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness" over the weekend and he explained it honours his two rescue pitbulls, who died.

"I had two dogs, both rescues, pitbulls, pitbull mix, and when they died, I dedicated half my back to one and half of my back to the other," he said as he lifted up his shirt to show off the ink. "So, it's a picture of a rat, because my dog used to kill rats in Washington Square Park, which is not fun. It was horrible. She was really good at it. I mean, it's doing a service to New York also. Oh, and then a pigeon. A New York pigeon and a rat."

Theroux is an avid animal lover and returned to social media recently for the first time since announcing his marriage split from Jennifer Aniston in February to support non-profit group Austin Pets Alive.

"Another very inspiring visit with the incredible people and pups @austinpetsalive," he wrote. "I cannot understand how they do what they do, day after day, so consistently and lovingly to save so many dogs and cats. I HIGHLY recommend going in and getting your nose bit by a toothless baby pitbull..."
