Springsteen and Smith team up for a rendition of their 1978 hit 'Because the Night' and are joined by Michael Stipe for Smith's other big hit 'People Have the Power'.

AceShowbiz - Bruce Springsteen joined Patti Smith for a rendition of their 1978 hit "Because the Night" onstage in New York on Monday night, April 23. Smith was promoting her new documentary, "Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band", at the Beacon Theater as part of this year's Tribeca Film Festival when The Boss thrilled fans and wandered onstage.

The duo was then joined by former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe for Smith's other big hit, "People Have the Power".

Smith also performed both tunes on Sunday night, April 22, at Stephen Stills' autism benefit.

Meanwhile, Springsteen's appearance came during a break from his acclaimed "Springsteen on Broadway" show, which started out as an eight-week run at New York's Walter Kerr Theatre in October, but has since been extended a number of times and will now run until mid-December.
