The four-piece girl group does not announce how long the hiatus will go on, but they note that they 'do have some upcoming shows through the end of the year which will still happen as planned.'

AceShowbiz - Fifth Harmony becomes the latest group to go on an indefinite hiatus after One Direction. The four-piece girl group took to their official social media accounts on March 19 to announce the news, revealing that they will be going on a hiatus to "pursue solo endeavors."

"After six years going hard, non stop, we also realized that in order to stay authentic to ourselves and to you, we do need to take some time for now to go on a hiatus from Fifth Harmony in order to pursue solo endeavors," they wrote.

They went on saying that pursuing solo careers would allow them to "gain experiences, strengths and perspectives that we can bring back to our Fifth Harmony family." After thanking their fans, the group added, "With your love and encouragement we will continue to build on ourselves, support one another in everything we do, and keep making you proud, each other proud and ourselves proud."

The girl group, which was formed on "The X Factor (US)", did not announce how long the hiatus would go on, but they noted that they "do have some upcoming shows through the end of the year which will still happen as planned, and we can't wait!"

Following the announcement, many fans of Fifth Harmony, obviously, were heartbroken and sad, including superfan Sam Smith. He tweeted in all-caps, "FIFTH HARMONY!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Some others, meanwhile, speculated that Camila Cabello's departure from the group was a factor in their decision to go on a hiatus. However, a source told Entertainment Tonight that it wasn't true. Rather, according to the source, the members of the group needed time to "explore themselves as individuals."

"These girls have been working virtually every day, non-stop for six years," the source explained. "They needed time on their own. They spent their entire teen lives together, touring, recording and promoting their projects. So, they wanted to explore themselves as individuals, as humans."

The source added that there "is no drama about this hiatus. Camila Cabello leaving the group had nothing to do with this break. They have had a No. 1 album since she left and this is entirely about them taking time to be individuals."
