AceShowbiz - The split rumor surrounding Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne began after she rebuffed his numerous marriage proposals, a new report claims. Speaking to The Sun, a source revealed that the One Direction star realized his relationship with Cheryl was "doomed" after she kept dismissing his talk of marriage.
According to the source, Liam "raised the prospect" of marrying the former Girls Aloud star several times after their son Bear was born last March, but was "knocked back." Along with his solo career taking off, it reportedly prompted the "For You" hitmaker to re-evaluate their romance.
"Liam is smitten with his little boy and wants things to work between him and Cheryl, so thought talk of marriage was a positive step," the insider said. "But she just doesn't seem to be thinking in the same sort of way and has made it clear that's not on the cards at the moment, which he saw as a real snub."
"The reality is his solo career has been very demanding on his time and Cheryl has spent a lot of time alone as a new mum," the source continued. "That's put pressure on her and the relationship and they've drifted apart." The insider went on noting, "Nobody is sure if they'll be able to pull things back from the brink."
Reps for the couple have not responded to the report. This comes after Liam and Cheryl were said to be headed for a split "within weeks." As reported before, the 24-year-old singer, who is worth £54 million, has sought legal advice over what a split could mean for his shared assets with his baby mama, who is ten years older than him.
"Liam has sought some legal advice but he still wants to make it work," a source close to the couple previously said. "It's just sensible to be prepared for all options." According to the source, "With a young son and a number of assets between them there is more to breaking up than just parting ways. He hopes it doesn't come to it but he's just being careful."
