Leslie Oldom Jr. also kicks off the annual championship with a rousing rendition of 'America the Beautiful' together with a 60-person choir.

AceShowbiz - Super Bowl LII has finally started. Pink kicked off the annual championship on Sunday, February 4 by delivering a rousing rendition of the National Anthem while battling flu.

Surrounded by members of the military, the "Beautiful Trauma" hitmaker, who donned a white and gray ensemble, spitted out her throat lozenge just before she began singing. Thousands of people at the U.S. Bank Stadium rose to their feet to see the singer's emotional rendition while singing along. Pink herself hit the notes without strain.

Accompanying Pink during the performance was Alexandria Wailes, who performed the National Anthem in American sign language on behalf of the National Association of the Deaf.

Carey Hart, Pink's husband, immediately expressed his excitement on social media after seeing the performance, saying that he was so proud of his wife. "The roller coaster that she went through this last week with getting sick and losing her voice would have broke any ordinary person," he wrote. "Oh and sang live by the way. She is the hardest working in show business and I couldn't be more proud of her."

A day before her performance, Pink wrote on Instagram that she didn't want to miss the opportunity to perform the National Anthem even though she had a flu. "Trying to practice the flu away," so she wrote along with a picture of her practicing. "I've been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come."

Trying to practice the flu away. I’ve been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come. And it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek. You can’t write this stuff I swear! And here we are. I’ve arrived at another one of my dreams which is slowly becoming a sort of nightmare. I will tell you, this is one of the biggest honors of my life, singing this song in front of my family, my military family, my dad and brother and step mama and family and the world. And the EAGLES!?!?! I promise I will do my best, as I always do. As far as the gremlins that got me into this mess, you can cough at me for the rest of your lives. If it’s a contest, babies, you win. #spreadthelove #spreadthegerms #pleasegivememyvoiceback #ificansingimgonnakillit
