It's only weeks before "The Walking Dead" returns with the second-half of its season 8. Ahead of its midseason premiere, the AMC zombie apocalypse drama releases a new trailer, previewing the final days of Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs).
Titled "Nightmare", the trailer sees dying Carl telling his father Rick (Andrew Lincoln), "You put away your gun, how you stopped fighting, it was right. It still is. You can still be like that again." Rick replies, "I can't be who I was. It's different now."
Michonne (Danai Gurira) is also featured, sitting beside Carl, who was bitten by a walker in the midseason finale, and looking after him with care.
Another midseason trailer, titled "It Ends Now", further previews what to expect from the upcoming new episodes of "The Walking Dead" season 8. "My people? They're coming," villainous Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) warns someone off-screen.
However, Rick doesn't seem to be planning to back down anytime soon. He's seen telling someone, "This is where you die!"
In related news, it seems like fans fans will bid farewell to another major character besides Carl in the upcoming season 9. Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie on the long-running series, is reportedly sought after with close to half-dozen offers for new TV pilots. Deadline reports that Lauren's team is in talks with AMC to get the actress more money, though it seems like the talks aren't going in Lauren's favor.
The site stated that Lauren has been seeking salary parity with her male co-stars, including Andrew and Norman Reedus, who are paid significantly higher than the other female actresses. The network reportedly offered a "modest salary increase" alongside a long-term contract which Lauren rejected.
AMC allegedly didn't make an attempt to follow up with a new proposition. Being contractually free, Lauren is said to be taking pilot meetings.
The development sparks speculation that Lauren may be exiting the show after season 8. It comes as a surprise though, since Maggie is alive despite death lurking around every corner.
"The Walking Dead" returns with an extended episode on February 25 at 9 P.M. on AMC.
