The 'Mission: Impossible' actor reportedly 'has reached the breaking point' where he has to make a tough decision and leave the church if he wants to be with his daughter again.

AceShowbiz - Tom Cruise has not abandoned Suri Cruise altogether. Despite allegedly not seeing his daughter for five years because of the Church of Scientology's strict rules, the 55-year-old actor is mulling over a decision to leave the church to be with his daughter again.

The "Jack Reacher" actor "has reached the breaking point, and something has to give," a source tells Star (via HollywoodLife.com). "If he wants her back, he'll have to walk away from the church, which has been a huge part of his life, to say the least. Leaving Scientology would be the toughest decision he'll ever have to make!"

Tom and Suri were last pictured together in public in August 2012, when he took her to Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. His ex-wife Katie Holmes has full custody of Suri after the actress filed for divorce in July 2012, ending their five and a half years of marriage. Following her divorce from Tom, Katie has returned to the Catholic Church.

In September 2017, it was reported that "Katie has grown so tired, disappointed, and frustrated with Tom's absence as a father." A source told HollywoodLife.com, "Tom does not make time for Suri and she has learned to deal with not having her father around."

The so-called insider added, "As Suri matures into a young girl, she is learning more about who her father is in the world and about his busy lifestyle as a mega-star actor. But that does not make things any easier for the child."

Eventually, Katie "has made peace with his lifestyle, work and spiritual choices, and has decided to do her best to parent Suri on her own." On the positive note "due to Tom's absence, Suri and Katie have an extremely tight bond," the source explained. "Suri gets everything she needs from her mother: love, guidance, wisdom, and grace."

Tom joined Scientology in 1990 and has been an outspoken advocate for the religion ever since. Based on the experiences of former Scientologists, leaving the church would not be an easy transition. Actress Leah Remini has shared about how she lost many longtime friends after leaving the church in 2013. The former "The King of Queens" star, who has many times spoken up against Scientology, revealed that members of the religion aren't allowed to talk to people who left Scientology.
