Selena Gomez, 25, and The Weeknd, 27, are no longer a couple. The former Disney darling and the R&B singer whose real name is Abel Tesfaye broke up after dating for 10 months. "It's over for now, but they're still in touch," a source told PEOPLE.
Their hectic schedules allegedly took a toll on their relationship. "She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship," the insider said. "It's been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn't easy on them."
Selena was first romantically linked to The Weeknd in January after they were spotted kissing on a romantic dinner date. After a series of sightings, the pair finally made their official debut as a couple at the star-studded MET Gala in New York back in May.
Their romance immediately got a stamp of approval from her mom Mandy Teefey. The mother commented in an Instagram picture posted by her famous daughter from the red carpet, "Glowing, smiling, looking health and equal love. Mama is happy XO."
Meanwhile, Selena said when talking about her love life in a radio interview earlier this year, "I'm the kind of girl that loves tremendously big. I just have always been that girl. I will give my heart and my soul to the person that I love. It's just how I operate."
Selena's breakup with The Weekend was revealed after she was spotted reuniting with her former on-and-off boyfriend Justin Bieber. Selena and Justin sent their fans into frenzy when they were seen grabbing breakfast together in California over the weekend.
Selena has just finished filming her latest movie "A Rainy Day in New York". She also dropped a new song called "Wolves" with Marshmello. She was back to work after receiving a kidney transplant from her friend Francia Raisa. Before the surgery, she checked into rehab to deal with the side effects of lupus, which could include anxiety, depression and panic attacks.
Meanwhile, The Weeknd is busy with his tour. He has traveled the world since February and will stay on the road until mid December. Before dating Selena Gomez, he was in a relationship with Bella Hadid who is now linked to Drake.
