AceShowbiz - Lili Reinhart found herself in hot water on Twitter. The "Riverdale" star was criticized for suggesting that she would be dressing up in blackface for Halloween.
Over the weekend, the Betty Cooper on The CW series posted on her Twitter account a photo of a woman costumed as a demon, with her face and arms painted black. "Found my Halloween costume!! Inspired by the color of my soul," so she wrote in the caption.
Shortly after, people jumped to slam the 21-year-old blonde beauty, pointing out that the picture promoted the use of blackface. Seemingly realizing that her post was misinterpreted, Lili decided to delete the post.

"I did not mean for my tweet to come off that way. I can see how it was interpreted as being insensitive, completely," Lili explained herself in a series of tweets on Sunday, October 22. "I saw the pic on a Halloween Instagram and didn't think it would be interpreted as being racially insensitive."

She went on writing, "I apologize. Never meant any harm. I can see how it could've been misinterpreted."

Some fans also came to her defense, with one writing, "I don't understand why people were coming for Lili Reinhart for that Halloween costume. That was NOT blackface." Similarly, another fan tweeted, "i dont get why people attacking lili just bc her posting about halloween costume and i know maybe people misinterpret it but she apologised."

Lili was not the first star to be called out for being racially insensitive due to a Halloween costume. Hilary Duff sparked controversy with a pilgrim and Native American couple's costume last year. Back in 2013, Julianne Hough dressed up as Crazy Eyes from "Orange Is the New Black" which led to her being accused of blackface.
