Mimi, who was set for an interview about her upcoming tour, was taken aback when she was pressed for her thoughts on the tragedy, making fans slam co-host Piers Morgan for the 'tasteless' question.

AceShowbiz - Mariah Carey was perched on a sofa with a large Christmas tree in the background, ready to promote her upcoming Christmas mini-tour in Monday, October 2 episode of "Good Morning Britain". However, things went awkward for the singer when co-host Piers Morgan abruptly questioned her about the mass shooting in Las Vegas which took the lives of 59 people.

The "All I Want for Christmas Is You" singer looked visibly taken aback with the sudden question as she just learned the news on TV. Mariah later quickly maintained her composure before answering, "That's awful. I pray for the victims and I hope all this can stop as soon as possible."

"You know, I have spent a lot of time in Vegas and this type of thing anywhere happening anywhere is a huge tragedy… It's terrible because people just going out to listen to music, really they're out for the night and something like this happens, it's shocking," Mimi, who just wrapped up a residency at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, went on saying.

Following the awkward interview, people jumped on Twitter to criticize Piers, calling his question "tasteless." Fans also insisted that they should have briefed Mariah about the shooting beforehand. "Someone should have spoken to Mariah off air letting her know what was going on then post poned, instead of throwing that at her," a user wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Similarly, some others took a jab at the show, "Shame on @GMB using a pre planned @MariahCarey interview to blind side her about Vegas shooting. Classless tactics & now she's getting stick." Meanwhile, another user simply snarked, "So unprofessional but it is Pierce Morgan."

The co-host later took to Twitter to clarify what actually happened. "We told Mariah's people before the interview. Her reaction seemed very relevant given she's a performer who often has residence in Vegas," Piers said.

On Sunday night, October 1, a man opened fire at the Route 91 Harvest Festival at Mandala Bay in Las Vegas, killing at least 59 people and injuring more than 400 people. The tragedy was dubbed the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Mariah wrote on her Twitter to pay tribute for the victims of the tragedy and their families, saying, "Horrified to hear about the shooting in #LasVegas. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Praying for everyone's safety."
