Celebrity

The 'Reply 1997' star decided not to renew his contract with Woollim Entertainment as he 'wishes to walk a different path in order to fulfill his dreams.'

AceShowbiz - Hoya has surely left Inspirits all over the world extremely heartbroken. The "Special Girl" rapper decided to withdraw from Infinite as his contract ended two months ago. Woollim Entertainment confirmed his departure on Wednesday, August 30.

"We would like to announce that as of June 9, 2017, Infinite's Hoya's contract with this label has come to an end. We would like to apologize for delivering unfortunate news to fans, who are always cheering for us," Woollim said in a statement. "Hoya expressed his wishes to walk a different path in order to fulfill his dreams while discussing the contract with this label, and we have chosen to respect his wishes."

The agency further explained that the other six members, Sunggyu, Dongwoo, Woohyun, Sungyeol, L and Sungjong, had renewed their contracts and would continue their activities "both as a group and individuals."

"We would like to apologize for the late announcement due to the time it took to come to this decision," Woollim added, before concluding, "Lastly, we ask that fans cheer for the new, 6-member INFINITE and Hoya's future. Thank you."

Fans thought his decision to leave the group was wrong, especially if he planned to pursue a career in acting. "Does he not realize that his acting's only getting attention because he's a member of Infinite?" a fan commented on an article on Naver. Another added, "You can't ignore the brand value of Infinite... I rarely a member succeed on their own once they leave their groups."

The "Paradise" hitmakers took quite a long time to discuss their contract renewals. A few months ago, it was reported that six members had decided that they wanted to stay with Infinite. Yesterday, Hoya was said to be still considering to renew his contract.

Infinite debuted as a 7-member group in 2010 with "Come Back Again". They rose to fame following the release of "Before the Dawn" and "Nothing's Over" in 2011, before hitting the peak of their popularity in 2011 with "Be Mine".
