Get a tissue ready! "This Is Us" has dropped the first look at the upcoming season 2 featuring Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown). The emotional clip sees Randall talking to his mother about his wife Beth's (Susan Kelechi Watson) struggle after he told Beth his interest in adopting a child in season 1 finale.
Set at presumably his kitchen, Randall can be seen asking Rebecca, "How did you guys decide with me?" At first, Rebecca tries to sell him on the idea that she and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) decided to adopt little Randall right from the moment they saw him. However, with some prodding, she later admits that "it's complicated."
The clip later cuts to the moment when Jack takes Rebecca to see newborn Randall in the hospital. "He wound up here--exact same place, exact same day," Jack says. "Look at him, Bec. Placed right there, right next to ours. Can't you just feel it? Can't you just see it?" Rebecca, meanwhile, after losing one of her triplets, looks at the baby with such an expressionless face.
"I said no. But your father was so sure," Rebecca confesses to adult Randall. "I was tired and I was grieving and he just kept pushing me. He was so determined that you were meant to be--meant to be ours."
"Sometimes in marriage, someone has to push to make the big moves and oftentimes in our times, yes, it was your father," Rebecca continues saying, while Randall is getting teary-eyed. "He pushed a stranger on me, and that stranger became my child, and that child became my life. He became you."
The show recently cast "That '70s Show" alum Debra Jo Rupp in a recurring role for the sophomore season. Debra is set to guest star as a social worker named Linda, who will cross paths with Randall and Beth. Series creator Dan Fogelman explained that Linda would be "helping them with their [adoption] process."
