MGM announces 'Stargate: Origins' that will center on Catherine Langford, a character who occasionally appeared on previous 'Stargate' TV shows.

AceShowbiz - A new "Stargate" series is in the works. MGM announced during its panel at San Diego Comic-Con that it gave the green light to a prequel series titled "Stargate: Origins" that will air on MGM's new streaming service Stargate Command this fall.
The 10-episode new series will center on Catherine Langford, daughter of archaeologist Paul Langford, who occasionally appeared on previous "Stargate" TV shows. The show will explore a brand new chapter in Catherine's early history surrounding the extraordinary portal. Young Catherine embarks on an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save Earth from unimaginable darkness.
Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry will write the script for the new series, with Mercedes Bryce Morgan serving as director. Filming will begin next month. MGM's Digital Group and entertainment studio New Form are producing. No cast member is announced as of now.
"Stargate" franchise began with a 1994 film, which was later followed by a sequel TV series titled "Stargate SG-1". The show ran for 10 seasons from 1997 until 2007. The franchise also spanned 2008's films "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" and "Stargate: Continuum" as well as spin-off series "Stargate Atlantis" and "Stargate Universe".
