Alec Baldwin has landed another live gig. Fresh off his two Emmy nominations for his impression of President Donald Trump, the comedian is set to star in NBC's live staging of 1992's legal drama "A Few Good Men".

In the Aaron Sorkin-penned live stage, Alec will be playing Colonel Nathan Jessep, a role made famous by Jack Nicholson in the movie, which also starred Tom Cruise and Demi Moore. "Alec is one of our greatest actors," Sorkin said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. "Having him play this role-live onstage for a television audience-is a dream come true. This will be a brand-new take on Nathan Jessep, and I expect that Alec is going to bust through TV screens and right into living rooms."

"No stranger to live television, Alec is the most multifaceted actor in the world and his range is incomparable. He will put his own inimitable stamp on the role of Col. Jessep in a play that is still as surprising and relevant as ever, from one of the most gifted writers working today," said NBC's entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt of an actor whom he calls "the gift that keeps on giving at NBC."

The televised play, which was initially planned for a 2017 broadcast, is set to air in the second quarter of 2018, marking the first live production of a Broadway drama in more than five decades. The project was delayed as NBC struggled to find the actor to fill the role of Col. Nathan Jessep. NBC's recent live stages are mostly musicals, including "Peter Pan Live!", "The Wiz", "Hairspray Live!" and "The Sound of Music Live!".

"A Few Good Men" original play first premiered on Broadway by David Brown in 1989 to critical acclaim. Sorkin later adapted the play into a feature film, which takes place in 1986's Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The film centers on an inexperienced military lawyer, played by Tom Cruise.
