The 'Stranger Things' actor explains that Hellboy is a 'kind of a neurotic, messed up individual who's destined for a horrible fate.'

AceShowbiz - David Harbour has opened up about his take on his character in the upcoming "Hellboy" reboot "Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen". Speaking to Yahoo Movies, the "Stranger Things" actor explains his approach to the antihero created by Mike Mignola.

"[Hellboy] is very rich," says Harbour. "I think the films did a certain thing, the comics do a certain thing. Hellboy is kind of a neurotic, messed up individual who's destined for a horrible fate. He's destined to become the beast of the apocalypse. Whenever he shows up and does the right thing, people throw beers at him and show up with pitchforks and he still manages to do the right thing. I think it's funny and it's sweet and it's weird and hopefully I can bring that to it as well," he adds.

Harbour also notes some similarities between Hellboy and Sheriff Hopper, the character he recently portrayed on the Netflix hit series "Stranger Things". "I would not be doing 'Hellboy' if it wasn't for 'Stranger Things', no," Harbour explains. "I would not. A lot of people responded to it. It's got a lot of elements-Hopper is a very complicated character and has a lot of levels. And he is heroic, but he's messed up and I think they want this for this Hellboy as well," he adds.

Although the reboot won't bring back the previous Hellboy depicter Ron Perlman, Perlman and Harbour are seemingly on good terms. The two recently had a dinner together, along with a comedian Patton Oswalt, with Perlman saying that he hoped for the best for Harbour. "David Harbour is a good dude," said the 67-year-old actor. He added, "I wish him nothing but the best when it comes to the retooling of 'HB'."

In the comics, Hellboy is a demon summoned from hell to Earth by Nazi scientists. He is later discovered by the Allies and eventually works for Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense to fight against dark forces.

"Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen" is aiming for an R-Rating and will have a horror movie style. The movie will be directed by "Game of Thrones" helmer Neil Marshall.
